What is Playfair?

Playfair is a lightweight, mobile-friendly web app designed for grassroots sports managers. It runs entirely in your browser — no sign-up, no downloads, no fuss.

The app helps to ensure every player gets a fair share of time on the pitch — Playfair tracks each player's minutes in real time, flags who's falling behind, and helps you plan rotations before kick-off.

Everything is saved locally on your device between sessions, so your squad names and match planner are always ready when you need them.

   Set up your squad

   Choose your squad size and team size (number of players on the pitch at once). Then optionally enter player names — they're remembered between sessions.

   Add match details & periods

   Enter team names, date and location — these appear on exports and screenshots. Set the number of periods and how long each one lasts.

   Plan your substitutions

   Use the Match Planner to assign each player a role for each period before kick-off. Great for thinking through rotations in advance so you're not making decisions under pressure.

   Track time during the match

   Tap Start to begin the clock. Each player has a toggle — green means they're on the pitch and their timer is running. Toggle them off when they come off; their time freezes and resumes when they go back on. A progress bar under each name shows their playing time as a proportion of total match time at a glance.

   Watch for the fairness alert

   If any player falls behind, a banner appears at the top of the player list — telling you who needs game time and by how much. You can set the threshold in Settings.

   Log goals and bookings

   Tap "For us" or "Concede" to record goals. Select the scorer and the minute is captured automatically. Yellow and red cards can also be logged against individual players. Goal and booking tallies appear in brackets next to each player's name. You can undo the last goal if needed.

   Export or screenshot

   At full time, use Export to copy or email a text summary, or Screenshot to save an image of the match — great for sharing with parents or keeping records.
